Note taking on Egypt

In todays class, we went over the key terms paper and all of the definitions.

Cataract- churning rapids of water

Delta- A marshy region formed by deposits of silt at the mouth of the Nile river

Nome- 36 territorial divisions

Dynasty- The historical pattern of the rise, decline, and replacement of dynasties

Pharaoh- A king of ancient Egypt and also considered as a God

Ka- eternal life force

Pyramid- A massive structure shaped like a triangle and burial places for old kingdom pharaohs

Maat- Goodness, laws, order, is to be kept

Hieroglyphics- An ancient Egyptian writing system in which pictures were used to represent ideas and sounds

Papyrus- A tall reed that grows in the Nile delta, used to make paper-like material for writing on
